saturday night PART 1

Mar 27, 2005 18:09

hannah and i went to the interpol concert at the 9:30 club last night. it was just a decent show, but we made a big production of getting all dressed up beforehand. i finally got to talk to my friend troy who works there, and he gave me a list of books to get him. if i do, then he says he's all set to list me for whatever shows i want. DONE!
we wanted to meet some interesting people, but both of us agreed that the crowd was pretty lame. in fact it seemed the only "cool" looking people were the ones who worked there, and of course they were too busy for anything. though troy introduced us to one guy who was working the door, and he let hannah stamp a couple hands.
when it was over we didn't want to leave. so we stood around until we were kicked out. once outside, we were so cold we couldn't stand it for very long. hannah suggested we go back to the car for our coats then come back. there is a gas station across the street from the club. she parked across the street from the station, and half a block up (this is where jake always used to park anytime we ever went to the club). hannah unlocked the doors and when i opened my door my first thought was, "i guess hannah put our coats in th back." cus i had remembered just taking mine off and leaving it on the seat before i got out. hannah must have thought the same thing about me cus we both got in the car and peered into the back, and reached around. we both turned around and hunted the floor. quite dumbly i said, "hey, where are our coats?" as if we could miss them. both were very long. hers brown suede, with furry trim (think penny lane in almost famous) and mine was also long, fuzzy black with furry trim (think glam rocker). neither could be eaily overlooked. hannah commented that the back seat was kinda messy. what?! someone must have gotten in and taken them.
actually, i almost wanted to laugh. i had been forgetting to lock my door all day, and when i finally did remember someone just broke in anyway. also, it was pretty funny (and lucky ) that someone got into the car and only stole our coats when there was a stereo, cds everywhere, hannah's purse with credit cards, and... her phone?

she couldn't find her phone.
i called it and a girl picked up and said hello, sorta laughing. "so, you've got our phone and our coats?" i surprised myself with my attitude, "well we need them. will you please give them back?"
"::girl laughs:: you have to pay us."
"oh yeah?"
i don't know where the fuck i thought i was going with that, or what had gotten into me for the moment. but hannah took the phone from me then and began to sob about how expensive everything was, how hard she had to work, how she had come from china with nothing. it was great i totally would've bought it if i... didn't know her at all.
they wanted 55$, to meet up with them somewhere and make the exchange. she played innocent, i'm not from around here-don't know my way around thing. then they hung up. we got out, and ran back to the club, they let us back in and police officer came to talk to us. he said to try and call them and arrange to meet nearby, while another officer waited nearby in an unmarked truck. when she called back a man answered, said he was the "uncle" and that we should really pay the girl for "finding" the phone. hannah did a great job and going along with him, saying she appreciated it and she gave the girl props for "finding" it for her. he said we should give him 72$. we agreed to give whatever we had on us, and maybe find an atm if they would just please meet us at the gas station by the club. hannah described herself, and asked for his description. then we went to the station to wait. he had agreed to be there in 15 minutes. we waited more than that. all around people asked us wtf were we doing standing around with no coats. we figured that whoever it was prolly saw us with the cop and knew better than to come to the meet up. feeling defeated we went back to the car and the police officer got the info hannah would need if insurance was to cover the theft.
she dropped me off at my house, and i ran straight up stairs to call nick, since he had been trying to reach me throughout the whole thing.
but my phone needed to be charged...
