The Test Ride
By Karlyn Murphy

Sunlight caught in spinning spokes
The chain easily urges wheels into motion
Soles pressed to pedals, increasing revolutions
Brand new, flashing in the light filtered by foliage
Brand new, and picking-up pace
Little legs churning, wind pressing shirt to my skin
And carries the fabric to flutter out behind
Thump! The vehicle lurches, helmet flopping forward
“Phew! That was close,” said under breath or just in thought
Slow down, got to slow down
Two tentative fingers stretching out
The blurred scenes whiz by at an alarming rate
Two fingers reaching for remedy like lemonade on summer days
Then… connection, and fingers curl round the handle
Whoosh, and brake, the speed releases
The slowing scenes clear and the surrounding defines itself
Rolling ‘long like music in 3:4 time
Brand new, sunlit test ride
Brand new, wings to carry me
Brand new bike

I'm really looking foward to reading this tomorrow but im super super nervous about it.
