PS: gift fic for taree, hope you will like it!
PS2: my first english fic, unbeta-ed, sorry for many grammatical errors.

Choi Minho is just an average medical student.

At first, he was skeptical about his ability to swallow the contents of whole medical textbooks. He doesn’t know how can he end up at this faculty of medicine. He prefers math to biology, actually. Sure he can remember basic medical concepts like how digestive system works or the mechanism of carbohydrate metabolism, but those textbooks are on whole different level, certainly.

Choi Minho’s schedule is packed.

He has to read many things such as Moore’s Clinically Oriented Anatomy or Guyton’s Textbook of Medical Physiology, and so on. Cadaver is his new friend and he doesn’t find formaldehyde that irritating, actually. Just a bit of burning sensation on his eyes (oh, he loves sarcasm). Oh well, at least his health is better than before and his room is never this clean. Medical field requires sterilized environtment, no?

He is only first year student, for God’s sake!

The pile of his works begins to take a toll on him. He becomes a bit bitchy and irritating. He always snaps at the most superficial things. He has declined many invitations from his friends, mainly because he just can’t stand their presence. At this time, he’s really glad that he lives alone on his room at his college’s hostel. His room is tidy for a college student and its space is not that bad, it’s rather spacious with minimal furnitures. This room can accommodate two people at best.

Minho is nice. Although he has an athletic body (his height is no joke!) with a decent face, he’s rather awkward with females. He loves coffee and hates sugar with passion. He’s diligent and dedicated to his major, but apparently he prefers playing basketball (or any sports, for that matter) to dissecting a human body. He’s quiet and would rather have a silent room with an eerie feeling than a really noisy roommate, until he comes.

----

“Yo!”

Minho drops his bag. He checks the room’s number. Number 320. It’s the right number.

“Your reaction is great!”

Silence.

“Name’s Lee Taemin. I’m your new roommate. Nice to meet you!”

Minho can’t believe his eyes. There’s a man (or a boy?) standing in front of him with big smile on his face. Judging from his face, this boy can’t be older than eighteen. His body is skinny and his height is not that short but more in average level. His hair is pitch black and there’s a piercing on his left ear. He must be a graphic design major with that carefree appreance. Taemin seems goofy and friendly though. He holds a cup of sweet (the smell!) milk tea on his right hand and his left hand makes a peace sign.

“I hate sugar.”

Taemin laughs.

“Interesting choice of words, Mister-“

“Choi Minho, and I mean it.”

Minho takes his bag and goes to their room while Taemin’s still laughing. Taemin stops laughing after a while and he locks the door carefully (that Minho guy! Why doesn’t he at least close the door!). After that, he goes inside to sit on the sofa accompanying Minho who’s surprisingly fast on changing his clothes. Taemin sips his milk tea with a loud noise. Minho flinches.

“Wow! You’re fast!”

“In case you didn’t notice, you have laughed for good seven minutes.”

“Have I?”

“Yeah. Have you locked the door?”

“I think….yes?”

“Good.”

Suddenly there’s a pregnant silence fills the room. Only the tv remote clicking sound can be heard and Taemin is afraid to sip his (sweet) milk tea. Taemin is talkative and approachable, so he’s good at dealing with people. That’s why he choose international relations major in social science. At first, he’s interested in criminology or even anthropology (I want to travel around the world and learn many countries’ cultures!) but in the end, international relations is more interesting and offers more promising career as well.

“What is your major?”

“Faculty of medicine.”

“-That’s a weird answer, you know. What year?”

“First year.”

“We are the same age?”

“Family issues.”

“Pardon?”

Minho sighs. Taemin looks at him with curiosity on his eyes.

“Actually I’m one year older than most first years because of my family issues.” Minho looks uncomfortable and Taemin doesn’t press further. He only sips his milk tea and looks at the floor.

“I’m an international relations major.”

Taemin smiles softly.

“I’m good at dealing with people, you know!”

That statement is greeted by Minho’s silence. Minho continues watching tv and suddenly the awkward atmosphere becomes more heavy. Taemin uses this time to observe Minho closely. His clothes are simple with only shirt and casual pants, different with his collared shirt and formal pants earlier. Medical students sure are neat and formal, aren’t they?

“What do you think about sugar cravings?”

Minho looks at Taemin’s direction with a frown on his face.

“I just love sugar a lot, but strangely I’m still skinny. It’s weird, isn’t it?”

“Pen and paper.”

“What-“

“I want to write the symptomps. This may be my first clinical experience.”

“Ookay…But where-“

“In my pants.”

“WHAT ARE YOU THINKING YOU IDIOT!”

Taemin screams and hits Minho’s head with his left hand. Minho is confused at the moment, but after that he laughs uncontrollably. Taemin’s face is still red with anger and he’s gasping for breath. Minho just laugh and clutching his stomatch.

“You pervert. I mean in my pants’ pocket!”

Minho is still laughing, and Taemin is just so embarrassed.

“THEN WHY DON’T YOU DO IT YOURSELF YOU LAZY ASS!”

Minho stops laughing and starts watching Taemin closely. Taemin is holding his breath and he cannot control his emotions with Minho’s handsome face in front of his eyes. Wait-handsome? Taemin can’t help it-Minho is really handsome. He has big and beautiful eyes, his face is small and his figure is tall and athletic. He’s truly the epitetome of beautiful man.

“Sugar cravings can be a sign of unbalanced blood sugar levels, you know. You need to keep your blood sugar levels stable.”

Taemin blinks.

“But my body’s in the most normal condition it can be!”

“Who knows? Sugar is strongly linked to an increased risk for diabetes anyway.”

Taemin snorts. Minho sighs.

“You should choose unprocessed complex carbohydrate foods such as wholegrain breads, muesli, oats, brown rice, wholemeal pasta, and root vegies. They can provide a slow and steady supply of glucose, without causing a sharp rise in blood sugar levels and insulin. They’re safer than sweets.”

“Is this why you hate sugar so much?”

“Well, sugar is not that dangerous if we don’t have an excessive consumption of sugar-“

“Why don’t you try this milk tea then?”

“I think I have told you that I-“

“C’mon you have to try this! Sugar is the best after all!”

Taemin hands his milk tea to Minho. Minho just snorts and feels a bit annoyed that Taemin just ignore his suggestion for his own health. Secretly Minho likes Taemin’s smile a bit, it’s cute and can brighten your day. That smile makes Minho’s heart melts a little. He decides to take Taemin’s milk tea and try it (he tries to ignore the fact that they will do indirect kiss though).

‘What is this feeling? This is so strange. Here I am, trying a milk tea with SUGAR because of a STRANGER! I don’t understand myself!’

With one last look to Taemin, Minho sips his first milk tea with sugar.

Taemin is excited.

Minho sighs and puts the cup on the table near the sofa. Taemin frowns.

“Well how is it? Delicious, isn’t it?”

“Well….”

“Well?”

“I still don’t like sugar-“

Taemin pouts and crosses his arms. Minho just chuckles and pats Taemin’s head.

“-But I like that milk tea.”

“And? The reason?”

“Because you make me like it with your sweetness.”

Taemin can die because of the embarrassment while Minho laughs uncontrollably at Taemin’s expression. Minho pinches Taemin cheeks and has a big smile on his face. Taemin tries to get rid of Minho’s hands on his cheeks but he fails miserably. Minho’s still smiling and releases Taemin’s cheeks to hug him from behind.

“That’s one hell of sappy lines, Minho. Seriously, this whole scenario is stupid.”

“But this kind of event is good for celebrating our first anniversary, isn’t it?”

“By acting as ourselves when we met for the first time? Yeah that’s great!”

“C’mon! You like it, don’t you? It feels nostalgic!”

“Yeah, whatever.”

Taemin sighs and rests his head against Minho’s broad chest. Minho just hums random songs comfortably while his hands stroke Taemin’s hair tenderly. Taemin closes his eyes and sighs for uncountable times that day.

“Ne, Taemin…”

“Yeah?”

“You will always make anything with sugar for me, right?”

“Yes, because it’s just me who can handle your sugar cravings.”

“But anything can be delicious because of your sweetness.”

“Just stop with those sappy lines. It’s boring.”

“Well, truthfully I still don’t really like sugar...”

“Yeah, whatever.”
