So, I had to update after complaining about the policeman. . .I hate to leave things sounding all negative and lame. First, I am getting my car back on Monday. I would have had it yesterday (the bodyshop is really phenomenal), but they discovered some damage to my tire putting the rim back on and had to order a new one. I have to pay a minimal fee for that, but it's actually pretty nice of Progressive. So Yay Mustang!!!! I need the Silver Bullit back. Well, maybe it's not a Bullit, but I am a Steve. :>)
Jason, the manager of our post office, is a golden god. He got our mail fixed quickly and waived the $20 surcharge because I pointed out that I'd spent $20 last year to get a lock that was totally inadequate to our mailbox opening needs. And Holly got to play with his magnetic stars, so I think it worked well for everyone.
Upon recieving the mail, I recieved several bills, but I also got my $10 for answering embarassing sex questions only tangentally related to secondhand smoking. I EARNED that $10; my interviewer happened to be male, and let's just say it was awkward.
So, Holly threw $3 in my face and sent me to the play. It was cute. Let's just say it was community theatre and leave it at that. I'm glad I supported my roommate and a lot of other really nice people, but, UF it was not, and oh yeah, the audience was full of old people and somebody kept passing gass over the course of the play. I nearly asphyxiated myself because there were chunks of time where I just chose not to breathe. In a way it was pretty funny. Exactly what you'd expect from 60% old people, 35% kids, and only 5% any other demographic.
I got to talk to Syd for a while before I took off. I've been thinking about her, but I hate calling people out of the blue. I'll see more museum people at the joint opening of Barbara's and Yue's thesis exhibitions. I am SO excited about Yue's. . .it's about Beijing, and Syd said the one piece she saw while processing the gallery request was gorgeous. I also need to go to Ocala to see Jess's exhibit at the Appleton, which also sounds pretty cool. I think a cadre of her peers will be going there towards the end of the semester.
So that's that. Extremely busy, as though I wasn't before. I just have all these social obligations now, as well. Mom and Dad will be up to see the Orange and Blue game and to see the Dental Display. No doubt there will be pictures. . .. my mom took a closeup of my name on the wall of the Harn. I didn't know whether to die of shame or roll around on the floor laughing. I love her; she's NUTS.
Now off to stockpile groceries and lock myself in my office to do preservation powerpoint and paper and last set of thesis edits before turining it in to prof. Prugh. I hope he likes it. He's going to be in Vicenza when I defend. Lisa and I think that, instead of having him teleconferenced in, we should just all fly to Italy. It's a thought. :>)
