When it rains, it pours, right?
In this case, it seems like anything that could go wrong, did. All at once too. Right when I had a billion deadlines and GISHWHES too.
The biggest issue I had was my computer. The track pad on my laptop started acting up, and honestly it felt like my computer was possessed by a demon that had a mind of its own. I've battled with these demons on and off for weeks until they decided to become permanent fixtures in my life. I couldn't use my computer at all because the cursor flew all over the place, clicking wildly on anything and everything. And I had a ton of work to do. Since I lost Friday due to the dentist and the vet, and I lost Saturday morning due to having unexpected guests, I really needed to buckle down and work... But my computer just gave up that evening.
Finally, after some research (and trying a hundred different things), I discovered that sometimes the battery expands and pushes on the track pad from underneath, causing problems. I looked and my battery wasn't flat against the machine like it was supposed to be.... So I assumed that was it. My laptop is like 7 years old and the battery is the original one. I truly love my Mac... It may be outdated, but it's still a dang good computer for being 7 years old.
To make a long story short, I took out the battery, and voila... If I keep the laptop plugged in, I can use it. And the track pad works again. I still have a computer. What a relief! I can't afford a new computer, no way. And we really need two computers since we both have writing jobs as work in the evenings.
I'm exhausted though. Like so much so, i couldn't keep my eyes open in the break room before work yesterday. I finally said "screw it" and set an alarm just in case I dozed off... And almost did when two people came in and joined me. That's pretty sad, isn't it? Falling asleep in the break room? I'm in the break room right now and could totally fall asleep right now... But alas, I have an 8 hour day and then a novella to finish writing tonight. No sleep for me.
Oh and we took Miss Kitty to the vet on Friday, so she's on antibiotics. We went to a walk-in clinic with "affordable" in the name, so I didn't hold out much hope for liking the vet, but it was one of few options open late on a Friday and I figured for something simple like a UTI, it would do.
We waited awhile to be seen, and the clinic was certainly no frills... But when we finally saw the vet, I really liked him. You can just tell when someone really loves animals and wants to help them, and he did. He was so worried about Miss Kitty's comfort, he was soothing her, talking to her, etc. He did a thorough exam and said she's wheezing (Dexter has been sneezing a lot too, the vet thinks they have an upper respiratory bug). He also said her kidneys feel small which could represent kidney disease. He made sure to note that it could also just be that she has small kidneys, but wanted to let me know and to get some blood work drawn up for her.
Initially, the bill was way more than we could afford, but unlike the other place, they didn't make us feel guilty for saying that. We are going to do the blood work soon, but couldn't do it that day. We got a cheaper urine test and they cut out the antibiotic shot and pain pills (she wasn't in much pain, we caught it early). That brought it down to something we could afford, and we can come back in for the blood work now too. I'm worried about the kidney thing... She's an older cat (about 10 years old. I've had her 9 years, but she wasn't a baby when I got her... She could be as old as 14 honestly, but I'm guessing 10). She's a senior kitty, so as have to watch out for these things.
We will be going back on Thursday for a re-check with the same doctor. Kevin and I both really liked him, and it's nice to know there is a vet nearby that's open late and on weekends that we can trust. I'm very picky about vets, so to say I liked him says a lot.
Okay, well I need to stop rambling and catch up with your lives before clocking on for today. Hope you're all well!
