one of my many obsessions

here's the truth: i am obsessed with makeover shows. well, not all of them, but two in particular:  what not to wear, and queer eye for the straight guy. i really love the original (bbc) wntw, but we don't get bbca, so i never get to see it any more. still, the tlc version does satisfy my need for makeover magic pretty nicely.

i also have to admit ( Read more... )

oh my. why does an entry like this just speak to everything i'm thinking. is that sad? probably. do i like it? yes!

i also love makeover shows- i'm not sure what it is. but i also like medical shows a whole lot...i think that there's just something about the malleability of bodies that really fascinates me. it also kind of horrifies me. i watched a plastic surgery makeover show once and i realized how sad some lives really are. they took someone that could have been helped with a haircut and some makeup and injected and molded her entire face. she was a different person! but through all the disgust i thought "gosh, i'd like a nosejob". how bad is that?

pointy toed shoes. my 6 month stint at dillard's gave me the ability to literally orate on absurd things like shoe toes. i feel like i should stand at a podium and charge admission sometimes. but really, you don't have to fall into the pointy toe trap just to get a feminine look. a lot of the secret is just to not go so chunky with the heel and not so enormous with the toe. there are some great square toed flats that are feminine without being able to moonlight as deadly weapons. i always had women come in and get stupid shoes that they obviously weren't comfortable in- they just thought they should be wearing them. whatever you feel hot in, you'll be hot in. that's it.

as far as jeans go...i don't think the stupid things fit anyone.

the medical shows make me feel sick. heh. but, truth be told, if i could wave a magic wand and transform my "flaws," i'd do it in an instant!

now, let's talk shoes:

i have a (sort of) wide foot, and comfort is an absolute must. i'm on my feet all day, sometimes literallly running, so my shoes need to be practical for that, as well. AND i'm short (5'4") and a size 12, and having an extra inch or 2 added to my height via my shoes makes me look MUCH more proportioned, so i almost never wear flats (except in the summer, when cheap, cute flip-flops beckon). all that said, CUTE is a must, as well. hotness is a virtue, ya know. *g*

because of all those factors, i tend to wear quite chunky shoes, generally (but not always) platforms because they're more comfortable. a chunky heel feels more stable.

SO. what should i be looking for?

WELL...we have opposite problems on the height dimension. i'm 5'10" and a size 4, so if i wear chunky shoes i look like even more of a beanpole....or like mickey mouse (i also wear a size 9 shoe, so who wants boats for feet?) i would say go for maybe a sleeker loafer that still has a wide heel but doesnt have a toe that fans out. you'd be surprised also that getting a shoe with a heel that doesnt have massive amounts of textured sole sticking out everywhere can make it look less chunky.

i just realized im wearing easy spirit driving mocs and a cardigan. maybe you shouldn't take advice from someone dressed like an 80 year old ;)
