A little while ago I posted about baby Tristan, the little boy with brain cancer.
His mother and aunt are wanting to start a fundraiser at first to help their own family through this, but with the goal that once Tristan is through all this they continue the fundraiser to assist other families going through cancer treatments and struggling with the finances.
They're wanting to make hats to sell online, hats of any size, knitted, crochet, stitched, however you wish. Doll sized hats are also welcome as these can be used with their education dolls at the hospitals used to assist siblings and the community in learning about the impact of cancer and chemo.
So if you feel like making a hat or three, tell me and I'll collate them with other gifts I have planned for the next couple of months. I'm hoping to send over a package at the end of August (I'm a bit swamped with wing commissions).
As an update on the family; Tristan has had surgery to remove the two tumours from his brain, and is starting the chemo path.
The family is looking into proton therapy for him as it has fewer side effects, though has the drawback that it's not available at their hospital or area. So they're on the hunt for other hospitals that will give them a go. Unfortunately they've already have a few refusals because Tristan's cancer is so advanced and he's so young. One hospital has said they could take him if he makes it to 3 years old, sadly it's unlikely he'll live to 3 without the treatments.
Without radiation, he won't live. With radiation, his quality of life could be severely impaired. It's a heartwrenching place for a family to be.
So if you've got the time, skills and materials to make a hat or three, please consider it. I'd appreciate it, and it would add a bit of a shine for a family under horrific pressure.
