Easter - The Victimization of the Semites Continues (wah, wah, wah, my people are opressed)

Apr 16, 2006 14:52

I hated this holiday season in elementary school. I have very clear memories of the bus ride to school in the morning.
Pink bookbag sliding around under the seat, brown bag lunch falling apart from the condensation of a frozen Juicy-Juice container, I'd yawn and rest my head against the violently-shaking window. The bus would hiss to a stop at the neighborhoods of my more affluent friends and they'd pile on, arms loaded with huge baskets spilling fake grass and chocolate. I'd smile attentively as they regaled me with stories of Easter dinner, bunnies in the back yard, and all manner of leavened bread.
At lunch, the stories continued. I'd keep up the charade as long as possible, when finally I'd turn in anger and shame to my matzo and peanut-butter sandwich. Silently, brushing crumbs from my lap, I would plot my revenge.
