Last night, a small life was snuffed out too early. When Aaron and I got home, Scooter was dead. We knew he had been sick, and he had a vet appointment on Thursday, but we obviously underestimated whatever was causing him to waste away. In retrospect, we should have known that anything that could cause him to visibly lose weight in a day was more than he could handle for the week we needed him to hold on, but at the time he would still crawl on our hands when we got him out and hold onto fingers with his tail. Undoubtedly the result of the poor breeding that comes from a pet store's need to mass produce animals, it was neither fair nor just that Scooter's time in this world should have been so short. You were our snakey-butt for only a few months, Scooter, but you were a beloved pet all the same, and you will be very sorely missed. I'd wish for you to crawl in my hair just one more time, but I know it wouldn't be enough. Goodbye, Scooter, we loved you very much.
