Hello, I am from Germany, I hope you will like it when you get there! Why are you moving? Do you speak the language (absolutely necessary!).
I have no idea who told you that there is no sink, I assume you mean a kitchen sink? They are usually existent in the kitchen, of course it is possible that the place you are moving to is the odd one out.
I don't quite catch what you mean concerning the machine? In some houses - usually older ones - there is something called a boiler which has water inside, heats it and then you use it. Also, there are other boilers that jump to work when you turn on the hot water and after a few seconds the water is hot.
Concerning drying clothes, do you mean a combined washing machine/dryer? Don't you have them in the US?
Cos I can't imagine what else you could mean...
Oh, and I hope you haven't been told stuff like that we still live behind the moon! I have lived in the States and people there really believed things like, we still have no running water, jam and cigarettes are unknown to us, BMW and Porsche, etc. are American cars, we are dirty, etc. All not true.
Just be prepared for the horrible high petrol and heating prices at the moment, they have climbed like nothing before. Heating got 45% more expensive.
Other than that, get fun. And with the Football Worldcup taking place in Germany next year, thinsg will get crazy!
And if you need to chill out, book a seat on a no-frills-airline and fly to Mallorca for a weekend.

HEY!! Where in Germany do you or did you live? We're moving there because my husband is in the army and hes getting stationed for 3 years. We just arrived in Germany like yesterday actually and so far is beautiful!
I know a little bit of the language, I have some Cds that teach germany and some books but i still have a LOT to learn.

Our friend in Missouri was stationed here in germany a few years ago, hes the one who was talking about the sink being absent (I believe it was the kitchen sink) but he was stationed here quite a few years ago so I douct there the same now. Oh and the washer and dryer combos..We have them in the Us as well, there just not very popular it seems. I think thier pretty high priced in the US to get one (just like just about everything eles :P)

Ive only been here for 2 days so far and the people here are wonderful. I actually havent heard anything mean about German people, everyone who was stationed here before us says everyone in Germany is quite nice and friendly. Actually I heard that the most trouble in the town is started more by drunk US soldiers who get in fights leavin the bars.
Plus I love listening to peoples accents from other countries (especially Ireland thats my favorite) I hope by the time my 3 years are up I'll be talking it fluently too!

My husband LOVES BMW's and Ive seen quite a few Ferrari's driving around too (LOVVEEE ITTT) I knew BMW's were made in Germany and ive heard from a few locals that they have models here that we dont have in the US yet so we'll defently be checking that one out (we're both big car buffs)

Anyways, it was awsome talking to you, glad to get a little more insite on the country from somones whos lived here a lot longer :D Feel free to add me to your Buddy list. I'll be updating a lot more now that we're in Germany, perhaps you can even help me out with learning a little German ;)

As an after note from pixi's husband regarding the comments about sinks and whatnot, most of the information people gave us was the way it was 10-15 years ago, not now.
