I never thought anything I made would be in danger of bandwidth theft, but... apparently it is. Not a huge amount, but it's the principle, really.
Bandwidth theft sucks because I pay for my bandwidth, and if you link directly to the files on my website from another (aka hotlinking), you're leeching off of my bandwidth. That I paid for. See why it upsets people?
So, I now realize I have probably been dumb in not stating this before, but please do not hotlink my icons or other graphics. Luckily, I have a great host and a very unpopular website so I haven't run up extra bandwidth charges like more popular people may have, but it's just not cool to find that someone is leeching off something you paid for.
There are plenty of free image hosting sites out there, such as Photobucket or Imageshack or whatnot. Heck, if you are that hard up for webspace and you need a place to host images, you can e-mail me and I can allocate some space for you, or give you permission to hotlink one or two things (say, for a forum avatar or signature). All you'd need to provide is the domain name of the site you want to link from, and the file(s) you are wanting to link (if it's like 20 different things I may have to reconsider). I'm a nice person. Just ask me.
Of course, if you're a personal friend or are hosted on my website or have talked to me about it, etc. just disregard this notice, thank you and have a nice day.
P.S. I've disabled hotlinking from sites other than my LJ or communities anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. But if there are any other sites I forgot about that need legitimate hotlinking access to my icons folder, let me know.
