No "Can't" Allowed

At the beginning of the high school art class I teach, I had a lot of students complaining. "But I can't draw!" they whined. Therefore, I promptly disallowed the word "can't" in class. Now that we're a number of weeks into the class, the students who decided to stick with it and do the exercises are finally beginning to understand why.

For example, here is a drawing from the first assignment I had my students do.



And here is one completed before we reached the end of the first quarter. This is by the same student.



Let me say it again, folks. Drawing is a learnable, teachable skill.
