"One dimensional fool in a three dimensional world, Politics are a drag"

So I have been hearing a lot reading about Vancouver's School Board Trustee Sharon Gregson and her front cover photo and article in Canadian Firearms Journal. She is a gun advocate and states that she believes that we should be able to carry guns on our person and have them concealed. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I am disgusted with her supporting guns publicly and openly being the School Board Trustee for the Vancouver School District. Ms. Gregson should have kept her personal thoughts on this matter out of the public, especially since she is suppose to be a professional who deals with the education of children and the rules of the School Board given down to the students are that there is absolutely not tolerance for students who carry weapons on or outside of school grounds for any reason. Publicly announcing that she is a gun advocate is setting a poor example to the student body. Since we moved we are no longer in this district, but she is still sending a dangerous message to our children and teenagers, that it should be okay to carry a weapon especially if you are a woman. In Canada, we have very strict gun laws not like our neighbours, USA. They have proven time and time again that guns don't just protect people, but they allow people the excuse to kill someone more easily. I don't want our schools to become like the States with metal detectors in our big city schools or have tragedies like Taber, CO and Middletown, AB school shootings, more people die from drive-by shootings, or worse more innocent bystanders get hit because some idiot was trying to kill/maim someone else with a gun. We still have this things happen but they are a much rarer occurrence then if the gun laws were more lax. When Ms. Gregson was contacted by media she had no further comments besides that the fact that she was shocked by the reactions that the article and her comments have brought. I am amused slightly that she is shocked by this as well as the fact that she hasn't been asked to step down; however it is safe to say that she won't be winning the next trustee election next year.

I have fired a gun, I was in cadets for years and learned about proper gun safety and how to use a firearm. I strongly do not believe that women or anyone else should use a firearm outside of firearm supporting events, hunting or ranges for protection or any other matter. I just can't justify logically why we as Canadians should carry firearms like Americans do. Our gun law and ownership system is poorly handled and there should be a debate to fix it and not throw more money into a dying horrible run project, I do agree with her point there; however to allow citizens to carry weapons for protection concealed is such a dangerous trigger to pull so to speak.
