i just like pissing off former employers
well, it has been 4 months since i left my last company to go work for one of our customers. since then, i have had many former co-workers looking to leave inquiring about positions at my new company. for several of them, i agreed to be a reference. we have hired two of them so far with a 3rd in the works. a few weeks ago, my former HR dept sent my current HR dept a letter complaining about my conduct of recruiting their current employees.
they claim that i am in violation of the "no recruiting" clause of my non-compete agreement. the funny thing is that i never signed such a document (even though they claim that i did in their letter). i actually called the HR director at my former company to ask what was up and he then says that he sent me a letter as well. i asked if he happened to send me a signed copy of the agreement and he says "yes"...confused, i ask again..."a SIGNED copy?"...again, his response is "yes". so, now i am thinking, did i sign one and forget about it? i tell him that i look forward to reading it but i never violated the agreement anyway. well, i get his letter on a saturday...guess what?...no signed document (though the letter even claims a signed document is enclosed). he was nice enough to include page 2 of the document (a more recent revision than when i started anyway). so, i call and leave him a message telling him that i still have yet to see a signed document. he calls me the next tuesday asking me to call him. i do but i get voicemail and tell him that i will not address any more of his concerns until i receive a signed copy of any document. 3 weeks later...nothing...no more letters or phone calls (or apologies for that matter).
what scumbags! they call my current company and send them letters complaining about me stealing employees when they should really be trying to find out why they have such a large spike in turnover since their management changes. the ironic thing about this is that while i wasn't recruiting before their complaints, now that i know i am under no legal obligations and they have succeeded in ticking me off, i have started recruiting anybody and everybody.
