Title: Glasshouse Rain, pt.3

Warnings/Spoilers: Weird things happen to those who are awake. This is my line. And I'm sticking to it. (Part 1 & Part 2).
Summary: Danny and Flack come to some sort of an agreement, and Mac finds himself naked, with audiences.

Why did he quit the Marines?

*sigh* They've never told us. (Yeeees, I'm frustrated by this.)

I dunno, I always get this thing that Mac is about truth, justice, valour, and as you say respect.

Yeah, I think he's the kind of guy who's probably got the Corps code of conduct memorized. He definitely embraces the Marines as a full-on lifestyle. (And it's telling that he refers to himself as being a Marine in the present tense, even though he has to have been out for a decade or more.) He's very into upholding all these values and doing the Right Thing, but he has trouble when it comes to actually applying any of it to his personal relationships.

But, as a CSI, relationships are rather... open and less regimented. Like Stella brazenly confronting him like that. And he can't even pull ranks like he did (if he did) with the Marines.

Oh, yeah. He's very into chain of command, too, and the idea that there is one specific correct way to do things. He gets very upset when that's violated or challenged -- except, of course, if *he* decides that he doesn't have to respect chain of command going higher up the NYPD ladder. Anyone tries to do an end run around his authority, though, forget it. They're toast.

That the world is not neat and orderly, I think, troubles him greatly. He wants to be able to control things, and he...can't.

does he even *have* a personal relationship? i know he loves his wife and all... i mean, but the cold, repressed sod that we see on television... professionally personal...

the last night we (some friends and myself) played pimm's-shot with csi:ny. one of them includes: drink one shot whenever you see mac smiles *voluntarily*. it was then upped from one shot to three, because there came the realisation that 'hey! at this rate, we're never going to get drunk'.

He wants to be able to control things, and he...can't.
*pats mac* poor mac. i wonder if he ever toys with the thought of going back to the marines...
