On ready to wear production in small factories

Oct 21, 2008 15:09

Just wanted to clarify that a small workshop factory in London run by a small team of qualified experts is not the equivalent of a run of the mill factory in China. We are talking tiny numbers and lots of supervision. The people who work at these places are highly skilled workers not "piece" workers who only concentrate on say, sewing a pocket all day long. So my ready to wear will be a high quality product.

Don't forget that not all factories and workers are created alike. I just keep hearing people putting down all factories like they are the devil and full of unskilled morons that just churn stuff out. I don't think so, although you do have to be make good choices and supervise with care. Remember just because its hand-made doesn't mean its quality. There is a lot of junk put out by "designers" that throw crap together and call it couture. The workers in small "Cut, Make, Trim factories", can sew circles around most designers and costumiers reagardless of their "lowly" position compared to self aggrandizing internet sellers.

rant, industry, ready to wear
