My parents will be here Saturday morning.
First of all, my parents are weird... They're flying expensively, but out of a cheap airport. They're flying British Airways--why fly Virgin Atlantic and save a few bucks (on a plane that
isn't radioactive) when you can pay at least twice the price on BA? Well, because it's a treat, and they don't expect to make more than one more trip here in their lives. But, for that money, you'd think they'd fly out of JFK, at least. Um... no. They're flying out of NEWARK.
Anyway, they will arrive at 6:45 AM Saturday at Heathrow Terminal 4. Which means Jess and I need to be at Holloway Road Tube station at 5:30 AM to catch the first train to Heathrow to meet them. We plan to have breakfast and Oyster cards ready for them, along with a few other things. It should be fun...
And I still need to finish Christmas shopping...
From the "Whole Reason We're Here" Dept.: We got our first actual, honest-to-goodness grades today. We had to give five-minute presentations last week, as if we were applying for funding for a research project. We were both scheduled for last Friday, that much we were certain of; the problem was the schedule changed three times because of people wanting to go earlier/later/next week that I wasn't sure what times we were scheduled for anymore. Last I remembered, Jess was scheduled for 11 AM and I was down for 2:30 PM. So we figured we'd get down there early (we made it at 10:20) so there was no chance of us being late. Good thing, too, because when we got there, we found out that no, my presentation was not at 2:30. It was at 10:40. How things do change...
I wasn't the only one with time issues. The guy who was supposed to go before Jess was 20 minutes late, so Jess went early. To top it all off, when the guy did finally show, he brought his Powerpoint show on a floppy disk, which left one of our teachers to go scrambling around the building looking for a USB disk drive to plug into the presentation laptop. (If anyone wants to send over an old flash drive so we can throw it at the guy next we see him, feel free.)
Anyway, we both passed with merit, so we're off to a good start to the happy marks-earning season...
