And I understand the need for the government to keep secrets and operate with a certain level of secrecy and autonomy--that's what they're there for, after all. It just seems to me, so often, that the goverment is trying to treat the citizens like little kids. They become condescending. They get that smirk of "we know something you don't and that makes us better" on their face. And no one's brave (or stupid) enough to call them on it, for fear of being seen as "un-American." Over here, it's like it's "un-British" to NOT criticize the government. It used to be that way in the States, until 9/11. But it moves in waves, really, if you look at it... From Watergate, where the press practically deposed Nixon, to Reagan, who they didn't touch, to Clinton, who they were all over, to Bush, who the press isn't as willing to jump on.
This is why I can never discuss politics with my dad... he and I have been going down different paths before Jess and I got here; just imagine how far we'll split after I've been here a year!
