Cracked Windshield......

Jul 28, 2005 00:55

Does any one have any recommendations for a place to go that will fix our cracked windshield and not charge us an arm and a leg? We called a few places and the lowest estimate we got was $205. We really can't afford $205 at this time. Thank you guys.

unfortunately, you can't really "repair" a
cracked windshield. double-unfortunately,
$200 tends to be the going rate for a replacement,
regardless of the type of vehicle. =/

give your insurance company a call - since it's
"almost" regular maintenance, maybe there's
something ya'll can do.

good luck.

Yeah I know it can't be repaired. We had to replace it last month. Some asshole swerved to the shoulder while talking on his cell and kicked up a bunch of stones. We paid $205 then too I think. And we are afraid to call the insurance company. We have had like 4 claims this year. Someone slashed our tires. Someone keyed the car up pretty bad. I can't remember what the other two were. I think it was another busted windshield and oh our mirror was knocked off while we were parking the car in Grove City. We have had nothing but bad luck with this car. We our afraid the insurance company may drop us if we have one more claim. *sigh*

i once had 5 cracked windshields in 3 months
(it was winter... you know how these roads get)
no problems for me because its not something that can be helped.
i doubt you'd get dropped for something like that.
hope all goes well for ya.

I got a crack in my windshield a few months ago and my insurance company (Progressive) set up an appointment with the people who "fix" the crack, sent them out and paid for it...

Call your insurance company, tell them you want to lower your comprehensive deductible to $50, or to $0, don't be obvious, maybe ask them some questions about what comprehensive covers, and then be like "Oh, I want to lower my deductible for that!", then wait a month or two, get your windshield fixed by whomever you want, have them bill insurance, and then in a few months call them back and say you are re-budgeting and want to lower your insurance premium, and could they raise your deductible back up? Lowering your deductible for comprehensive should only run you maybe $15-$20 per month, if that, so it could come out to be less than $100.

Our deductible is $50...my dad is just too stubbron to call the insurance company because he says that even if you call they consider it a claim and he is afraid they may drop us because he has had many claims over the years...he is a stubborn ass. I told him to call but he's set in his ways and won't even think about. It's his car and his money. I'm done worrying about it now.

The glass alone is probably $120-150, depending on the car, so $205 isn't that bad.

That said, think of it this way, $205 is cheaper than $205 + $50-150 for a ticket for it being broken.

But I encourage you to wait until you have the $$$ to fix it and/or to shop around more. I've spent whole afternoons calling every damn auto glass place in a 50 mile radius that was listed in Yahoo's yellowpages.
