An amazing friend of mine just posted the following:

Jun 17, 2013 17:24

"If you are a resident of Homestead Borough in Pennsylvania (inculding West Homestead and Munhall), if you work in Homestead, PA, if you are a current or retired USW member, or if you worked at U.S. Steel Homestead Works... please come and get a free portrait made at the Homestead Portrait Studio.

I will be making portraits of those who live and work in the Homestead community, as well as union members currently working in the steel industry.

The first 200 portraits will be on display during the run of the Carnegie International and I will make up to 500 portraits total. A free copy will be given to the portrait sitter and I am gifiting an entire set of the portraits to be accessioned by the Carnegie Museum of Art. I will keep an artist set.

So there will a total of 3 portraits printed: the portrait sitter will get one, I will keep one, and the Carnegie will have a complete set. When the Carnegie accessions the photos, the value of the photos will increase, meaning the portraits are effectively "printing money." Currency with the images of people have lived, or currently live or work in Homestead, PA.

Homestead Portait Studio will open September 1, with hours TBD.
