Gourmet food trucks in Pittsburgh?

Are there any? Urbanspoon only lists 6 places as having "street food" and they all seem pretty standard hot dog fare. But I also haven't trolled, say, Market Square or Oakland during lunch hours.

Wall Street Journal article on this kinda thing.

I don't know that I'd call any of them "gourmet" but there are lots of lunch trucks around Pitt and CMU.

The only one I know of that's even remotely gourmet would be the Franktuary truck which is in a different place every day, and sells hot dogs, although really fantastic gourmet hotdogs from what I've heard.

There's also the taco stand outside Reyna in the Strip which I've really enjoyed, however I saw them pictured on the news last night in a story about health dept investigations. I was at the gym, so I couldn't hear whether they were cited or what, but...

There is another taco stand in front of Las Palmas on Brookline Blvd. Damn fine tacos at $2/each. They just give you the tortilla and filling - you get to dress it anyway you like.

The Indian food trucks next to Pitt serve the best Indian food in the city. Far from gourmet, but extremely tasty and a damn good price.

From wpxi.com:

"Investigators were sent to Reyna Foods in the Strip District after a customer complained about a mouse dropping in a tortilla, according to Cole.

Health department records show that raw taco meat was stored at 60 degrees and a dead mouse and its droppings were found inside the store.

"Vermin that can carry disease, it's cited," said Cole."It has to be eliminated because there is the potential for contamination of food product."

The manager of Reyna Foods said they now have an exterminator coming to the store every week and they have added a refrigerator cart outside to keep food cold."

I store raw hamburger meat at 80F... while it's sitting next to the grill waiting to be cooked.

And I trust random store owners more than WPXI "news". :-)

I think the ACHD's point was that the meat was stored at 60 degrees all of the time. These quotes were from Guillermo Cole, the director of food safety at Allegheny County Health Department, not WPXI. Trust me, when WPXI does their "expose" pieces, they don't deter me too much. The Health Department gives me a little bit of pause, though... ;)
