Fios vs. Comcast redux

Jul 19, 2010 12:35

It's been over a year since I asked for opinions on Fios versus Comcast for TV and Internet service. Right now, I'm about to move into a new place where Fios is available and the deal they're offering me sounds a good bit better and cheaper than what I'm currently getting through Comcast. For those of you who've used both, how would you compare the ( Read more... )

I will never go back to Comcast if FIOS is an option. Verizon service has been excellent and I can't remember the last time I had an outage.

Also, I telecommute and often move huge amounts of data to/from work (mostly video). Comcast called me and threatened to cut off my service for using too much bandwidth while Verizon sold me an unlimited bandwidth package and promised never to cut me off.

When I called Comcast earlier today and asked whether or not they could come close to the same 244 channels and Internet from FIOS for $84.99, the best they could offer was $124.99 for 180 channels and broadband. When they bragged about their reliability, I reminded them that I had at least five days of outages just this past winter. Thanks for the endorsement, and I'm pretty certain I'll be going with FIOS.

Do it.

The service has been excellent - no drop in bandwidth when everybody and their mother logs on after work - and when I call with issues, the customer service has been good. Both technicians that were sent out to my houses were professional and good little worker bees. The price is comparable, but I feel like you get more and better stuff for your money. I think maybe a handful of times my internet was slow, but it never lasted very long. I've had no problems with the Tv service. We have cable cards in our Tivo instead of the set top boxes.

We refuse to move to an area without FiOS service. :)

We've had FiOS for almost two years and I can't list a single complaint I've had with them. I will never go back to Comcast.

I haven't had Fios, but there is no way it would not be better than Comcast.

I've had FiOS for 3 years now, and let me tell you - compared to Comcast which several of my friends and my Parents have, it is many times better.

And I don't think I've had an outage that's lasted for more then 90 minutes or so, and usually those happen in the middle of the night (like 3 or 4am) and they've never correlated with weather or anything, so I chalk it up to equipment upgrades. And even that's only happened 2 or 3 times that I've noticed.

The Short of it is - FiOS has been the best internet connection I've had since I had my own commercial T1 more than 12 years ago.
