I did it once. It's an awesome race, lots of people and lots of fun. I finished in about an hour, which is about twice what my 5K time was, so I was pretty happy with that. And there were plenty of people behind me, so there was no fear of them, like, reopening the roads and me running alongside cars.
I don't think you'd have any trouble with a 10K if you do 5Ks, but I'm not a medical doctor, or a regular runner. But I did it, so there's that. I don't remember my exact training regime, but I was probably running 4-5 miles at a time in the weeks prior.
I'm knocked up this year so I'm not going to do it, but it's a goal to do it next year.
If you do it, plan on getting to the start very, very early, since it's totally packed - you might want to park downtown and take a shuttle back to the start.
Thank you! I was thinking about having my boyfriend drop me off near the start and doing a warm up jog to the starting line! My darling sister is nearly 6 months along, but she found a wonderfully supportive belly band so she'll be running too! (but doing more walking than me I expect) We're currently running 4 miles, 3x a week so I'm expecting to be able to finish in about twice my 5k time. I'm really looking forward to the long downhill!
See, if I had been running regularly before, I would totally do it, but since I wasn't doing it then, I didn't want to start now. Where did she get her belly band? I'm not sure where to get one.
Good call not to start up now - I started running in January, and got pregnant in March! I'm up to running 3.5 miles three days a week, so I admit the 10K is a little ambitious. But I'm planning on running 4 miles and walking the other 2.2!
I got a "maternity support belt" for $18 at the maternity store on McKnight in the plaza with the Best Buy. Great little store, btw! Not pricey at all! The belt is intented to take the pressure off your lower back, but I've found that it also helps support some of the baby bounce! I'll be 7 months along for the 10K, hopefully it'll still do the trick.
