Some friends have mine have dropped the DJ for an ipod. They asked the guests to send requests and just put a playlist of requests (and the couple's preferences, of course) on shuffle.

I agree with this suggestion. A friend of mine was recently the best man at a wedding that did this, and he played MC and handled the music.

I have experience DJing weddings (among other DJ environments) and would be willing to do it again. In fact the last wedding I DJed was for a couple who were asking about inexpensive DJs through this community. If you're looking for a simple (i.e.: no fog machines, lasers or lights), inexpensive set up I could be of service. Let me know if you're interested; you can contact me via LiveJournal.

I can be your dj for such an event and can provide a reference of wedding that I played under the same criteria. I told the happy couple that under no circumstances would I play the chicken dance, electric slide or the hokey pokey and they were quite pleased with the result. Please provide time and date and we can arrange a time to meet, once you've discussed the matter with your partner.
