Hello, all!

I am currently a senior at a lovely little college in Florida, and have never lived outside of the state. I'm a Steelers fan, and my parents both grew up in Western Pennsylvania (Mum's from Beaver, Dad's from East Liberty, and yes, I can say it properly- I just can't spell it that way), but my visits to Pittsburgh have been, frankly, few and far between.

But for some reason I can't get the city out of my blood. I've been researching job opportunities, and the Big 4 accounting firms that I've been looking at all have Pittsburgh offices. Once I started thinking about those options, I've been stuck on it. My goal now is, graduation then Pittsburgh. Now, I just need a job (possibly two- one for me and one for my roommate here) and a place to live, and I was hoping ya'll could help me get some answers. I've bolded the gist for people who want to avoid my tedious rambling (I can't say as I blame you).

(1) My mom lived in the city on her own for a while (late 70s, early 80s) before she met and married my dad, and she told me about some boardinghouses for women that existed back in her day. She's pretty sure that the one she lived at, St. Regis, is closed (and too far away from downtown for my needs), but one her friend lived at was right there on Boulevard of the Allies. Does anyone know if this place is still there, and if so, who runs it? She wanted to say the Salvation Army, but she's really not sure.

(2) Long shot, but here goes. Does anyone work or know someone who works with any of the big accounting firms in Pittsburgh? I'm talking about Deloitte, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, or KPMG.

(3) Are there any publishing houses in the area? My roommate at college is from a little town that doesn't even have a McDonald's (that's how little it is), doesn't drive, and has no job prospects in the area. She can't get a job until she moves elsewhere, she can't move elsewhere until she has money, and she can't get money until she has a job. It's all very catch-22, but it leaves her open to plenty of options. She's an English major who wants to get into editing. We've lived together for four years, we can handle living together in a boarding home or dormitory style-living or whatever we have to do.

Thank you so much for any help you can give me! It's really awesome that I have a chance to move someplace so fantastic- I really hope that this works out for me and Melissa (roommie)!!
