Dog-friendly rentals

I know there are tons of posts about renting in this community, and probably some about pet-friendly places that I didn't find, but here I go anyway.

I'm going to be moving in June, so I know I'm also a jumping ahead a little, but I've started browsing for apartments to get a feel for my options with regard to rental companies, neighborhoods, etc. The big hurdle is that I have a small dog. She is a 14-pound, 10-year-old dachshund who was debarked by a previous owner (I keep trying to convince people that she is basically a cat, but to no avail). For seeming like such a dog-friendly city, I am having a terrible time finding realtors or landlords that will allow dogs in ANY of their units, and most of the ones that do require $300+ in fees or deposits, plus $20-$35 extra per month. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but that seems a little bit excessive for a 14-pound furball that sleeps all day.

I currently live in Squirrel Hill with two other roommates, but my boyfriend, my dog and I want to get our own place when this lease is up. Unfortunately, the boyfriend is going to be on the other side of the country at that time. I personally really love living in the East End, so Squirrel Hill, Shadyside, Friendship, Bloomfield, Highland Park or Greenfield would be great. I'd also consider living in the North Hills around the McKnight road area because my boyfriend works near there and I could just take 279 to Green Tree where I work, and it wouldn't tack too much onto my commute.

So basically, does anyone in this community know of any dog-friendly landlords who are also not terrible landlords? Like I said, I have a couple months before I start to panic, but I would really like to start assembling some names and numbers now!

Thanks!
