I have had my absolute last straw with Comcast.

Feb 04, 2009 06:30

When I moved into my apartment, a Comcast employee came to hook up cable and internet. He came about 4 hours early, which is not necessarily bad, except I wasn't expecting him until later so my computer wasn't set up. I had had Comcast before so I just gave him my laptop to test that the internet connection was working and went back to unpacking. Sounds like classic Comcast. Get Verizon if you can and call it a day. Much better service, much better channel lineup, much better internet.

Good to know. I'm getting my FIOS installed this Friday. I'm very excited about it!

Goodluck ever getting them to show up at your house.
We had to fight with them for my Grandma for days. They made appointments, guaranteed times and then didnt show up. When we called them they would say "Were very busy and the appointments are never guaranteed. Ive never wanted to reach through the phone and strangle someone so badly.

I hope your experience is better!

I hope so too. I took a personal day on Friday so I could be there while they hook everything up. The appointment is set for between 8am and 12pm, and they has best show up closer to the 8am mark! If I'm waking up THAT early on a personal day I do not want it to be for nothing. If they cancel on me? Hellfire and brimstone!

Yeah, I spent an entire day waiting for them and they never showed up.

Then the next day they said they'd be out between "8am and 8pm."

I was really irritated. Like hey man, I have shit to do.

I dont get why they bother making appointments if theyre just going to tell you "the appointments cant always be kept" when you call them.
I was so upset when I called them, and they were absolutely unapologetic about it. When I told them not to bother coming out and that wed just go with someone else the manager said "OK" and hung up.
Oh I was so angry!

Yeah, they kept trying to tell me that my service was all ready to go and I was like, "Well...it's not. Because it's not working." and then they kept treating me like I must be stupid and I don't know how to use a modem. "You have to plug it into the jack." "The jack isn't working." "Did you plug it in?" "OMG!"

Then as it turns out they never connected the wires so that I was actually getting the service.

And they had called at 8am to say the guy was going to be right over...and then he ended up coming at like 4pm.

And I was ridiculously busy that day and I had to talk my poor roommate into waiting around all day until the guy showed up.

The reason sometimes the appointments can't be kept is because the installation of Fios takes over 6 hours depending on how new your house is. The guy who set up ours had to cancel his next appointment because he was here for 8 hours thanks to our wonky old house.

Hey at least they bothered to cancel their appointment. For me they just never showed up, and when I called back the ladys advice was to just make a new appointment, said right before telling me they were busy and there was a good chance they wouldnt make that one either.

I understand crap happens, but youd think that they would be prepared for this if they were having lots of people signing up. It also wouldnt have been so infuriating if the people I spoke to werent such twats about it.

Verizon completely forgot me too. They sent me a confirmation email with my order number, gave me a new phone number, etc. I waited. Then they completely lost my order. They had no record of me, my appointment, or my confirmation number.

that was my experience. the guy was great, took the time to do it right when he could have rushed and fucked us over. i've had no issues with verizon whatsoever.

Yeah, same here. The guy showed up on time, was professional and polite, didn't leave a gaping hole in the side of the house, pulled the cable exactly where I wanted it, didn't make us use their useless wireless router, and was actually able to deal with the fact that we don't have any Windows computers in the house.

Calling Verizon "good" is liking making a deal with a minor devil.

i'm going off of my own experience. i never had an issue, therefore for me they've been good. i don't know what everyone else has gone through, so i can't comment on it.
