Are there any really good Jamaican restaurants around here? Nothing fancy, just damned good food.

There's Royal Caribbean, on S. Highland. although I am not a huge fan of hacked chicken I will put up with it for their jerk.

That's over in E. Liberty, right? If so, I think I saw it for the first time just a couple of days ago. Next to a bar, down the block from a Family Dollar?

Yep, it's in E. Liberty. I just looked it up.

I might have to hit that one. I grew up eating Jamaican food and I just watched Anthony Bourdain's Jamaica episode and I'm dying for some beef patties, jerk chicken, and rice & peas. Yum yum.

have you been to the shadow lounge? i've never really explored e. liberty, but their website (the shadow lounge) looks really cool.

I like that whole block ,really.. there's Abay, Royal Caribbean, Ava Lounge, Shadow Lounge right there, then Kelly's a bit down the street. I say check them all out :) I enjoyed my meal at Royal Caribbean.. I believe I had some type of chicken sampler platter. I also recommend the ginger beer...mmmm. :)

There's also a second Ethiopian restaurant around the corner called Tana.

Good point! I've also tried the food there and found it to be quite good. It was a lot less crowded in there, and it also did seem to have more space than Abay... but I would say the food was pretty comparable.

Also, if they have it and you're ever there again, get the fruit punch. Jamaican fruit punch is to die for...it's a pulpy smoothie type deal, but without the icy chunks. Just fruit. So yum.

Yeah, it's pretty much amazing. I hope they have it and it's as good as what I used to get in DC.
