Beauty school drop-out, or: tl;dr

Hey dudes.

I'm having one of those bi-annual OMG WTF AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE episodes, and am thinking about attending beauty school again (part-time evenings.) I went to a beauty school a few years ago in San Francisco during another OMGWTFAIDWML episode and I LOVED IT, but moved before I could finish. And trying to transfer my hours to an out-of-country school (I moved to Toronto) proved to be too much of a pain, especially after the school I went to was sued and subsequently closed. Hahaha.

So I'm starting all over! Back then, I was unemployed (damned dot-com bubble bursting) and was able to run around and check schools out, but now I don't have the time or the means...so I'm turning to you lot. I've done a bit of googling and I'm going to call around, but personal experiences and recommendations would be awesome (some schools look good on paper, then you visit them and it's a sweat-shop.)

So! Rambling over, here are my questions:

1) Your own experience: Did you attend beauty school in Pittsburgh? Do you know someone who did? Where did you/they go? How did you/they like it? Full-time or part-time?
2) Local schools: What schools do you know of in the city? I came up with a few during searching, but there has to be more, and one of the schools I found is long-gone. I'm car-less, so I need something to which I can easily public transpo.
3) And one last question in case someone knows: In California, if you keep your grades and attendance up, the state will help pay for your schooling. (But only for some beauty schools; I went to a hoity-toity one that didn't have financial aid.) Is there something like that here?

Thanks much!
