I know somebody asked this about Greenfield recently, but I know that Wilkinsburg now has different trash pick-up, too, only as you can see the website doesn't have the new days yet. Does anybody know where else I can look for the new trash collection days, short of calling city hall (which is really annoying to do)? I don't want to leave my trash ( Read more... )

There's the new 311 line. Someone there might be able to help.

New 311 line? Tell me more?

Oh, wait, do I need a 412 number to call that from? I currently have no landline due to circumstances I'm sure you're aware of, so all I have is my 908-area code cell phone. Although I suppose I could call from work as I'm closing up the store tomorrow...

"311" is the new "non-emergency services" response line. I don't know that it can be called from a cell phone at all - though I haven't tried. It is only available from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday.

Information about the 311 response line can be found here.

Our trash collection day (in Beechview) also changed. We did receive a notification in the mail from the City.

It works from some cell phone services, but not from others---I believe Verizon and Cingular customers are locked out.

If you can't use 311, though, look in the phonebook under 'City of Pittsburgh' and call the "If the department you're looking for isn't here, call this number" number---you end up in the same place, albeit after dialling an extra seven digits. And of course, if you don't have a phonebook, you should be able to find the number online at www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us or by calling 411.

Damn, I'm Cingular, so no luck with my cell phone.

I do in fact have a phone book and I hadn't thought to check that particular service. I called city hall once before at their main number, and it was so horribly annoying I vowed never to do so again.
