To give me a bit of distraction from major field reading, I bring you the newest version of Humiliation. This round is twentieth-century American literary classics, books generally read in high school or college English classes that, for some reason, you never read. I realize that "classic" is somewhat subjective, but I'll be fairly open to what is included in nominations.

[EDIT] I decided to limit it to American authors. I think that a smaller range makes for a better competition.
