The letter Meme:

snowdrifted has given me "R." If you want to play, comment and I'll give you a letter at random. Your mission: to post a list of anything about you, all starting with that letter.
R if for...
Running
I used to hate running. I always felt like I could never be as good as my sisters, which was one reason I hated it. I also have some issues with my knees, so I probably won't be doing marathons, but I'd rather be in good shape than let my stupid knee problems dictate what I can and can't do. It hasn't proved a problem so far... I have actually come to enjoy running. I like that I can do it anywhere--all I need is some grungy clothes and a pair of proper shoes. I'm not at the point yet where I enjoy running without music to help me along, but I guess I'll get there eventually.
Riding
For the first 13 years of my life or so, I spent a whole lot of time at the barn around and on horses. My mother taught riding until I was in junior high. We owned two horses (well, a pony and a horse) for several years. After our pony died, we all quit riding. I started again in high school and spent Christmas and summer vacations during college at the stables outside Atlanta or (for two summers) teaching riding and riding every day at a camp in North Carolina. Riding was better for my mental health in high school and college than any and drug ever could have been. I really, really miss it, but the last time I was on a horse was six years ago, right before I left Scotland after my Master's. I hope to be someplace I can ride again regularly after I finish this degree. *crosses fingers*
Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead
If you've been paying attenntion to my LJ at all, you will know that I am a fan of Stoppard's masterful play. This is a long-running love. I first encountered the play when I was in high school and one of my friends whose father was an English teacher at our school introduced me to it. I even wrote my junior (grade 11) term paper on it. I still rank it as my favorite film and play. Stoppard's complete genius is just showcased so well. It is the smartest, best fan fic you will ever read.
Rankin and Rebus
Ian Rankin, a Scottish author, has an entire series of mysteries that are centered around the flawed character of Detective John Rebus. They books are set in Edinburgh for the most part. They are dark and gritty and smart. Give them a try is they sound at all interesting to you.
Rockwell Church
ONe of my favorite bands. Rockwell Church is Joti Rockwell and Nathan Church Hubbard. They play excellent filk/pop music with wonderful harmonies and often quirky lyrics. My friend Erich introduced me to them at Kenyon. I always, always take at least one of their CDs with me on any trip.
Rockwell Church -- Geneva Rockwell Church -- She Hung the Moon Rockwell Church -- The Never Ennding Battle Between My Ego and My Id I think that's all I've really got at the moment. Now I must be off to my incredibly exciting Friday night doing work...
