I don't know what kind of writing your professor was reading, but he/she is WRONG! You certainly can write fanfic! Somehow I thought that professors were supposed to ENCOURAGE students...he/she must have missed that lesson during "COLLEGE PROFESSOR 101".
Maybe he/she just thought your paper wasn't "academic" enough? Academic writing is certainly a lot different than regular "people" writing or fiction writing. Academics always use more big words than necessary, as well as extremely complex sentence that are as long as a normal paragraph. Clauses upon clauses are always highly regarded, too, as well as sentences that require semi colons!
I'm a professional advertising copywriter, so CLARITY is my 1st priority. I am starting to work on some fiction, too. I hate academic writing!
Hey, I'd love to be added to your friend list so I will know whenever you post new fanfic!
I hate academic writing too. But my Fiction prof believes that all fiction should be "literary," which I've also come to hate. I'd rather just read a good story, not something that takes 500 words to say say that someone walked down the hall.
I added you as a friend but I don't usually post my fics here. Moonlight is slowly working it's way into this journal too but I made a second one that I plan on putting all my fics in when I get a chance. I posted the last chapter there first so I could get some feedback and I'll probably stick to that formula from now on, so you can check out moonlit_muse04 for updates.
Ok well i am going to say that this is the first time i have ever used LiveJournal so yeah still looking it over trying to figure things out, but figured i would come say hi.
Hi Evilous! Welcome to LJ! Let me know if you need any help figuring stuff out and I can try to point you in the right direction. There's a bunch of great Moonlight communities on here that you can check out. You should think about joining moonlight_fics and posting "What More Do I Have To Do?" (which I really need to get caught up on...stupid classes).
I was thinking about posting it on there, just not sure how or where. I know what you mean about getting caught up in classes though. I always procrastinate with things but this semester i said i would not do that, and i tried but i strted behind in the one class due to a book issue at the beginning where they stoped selling my one book for a week so yeah it was not my fault this time. lol But do you know if there is like a tutorial for LJ or something, thanks for the help. Have fun with your classes.
I'm a big time procrastinator too, and I always say it's going to be different this semester and something always comes up that changes my mind. I never learn, lol. But I understand about the book issue. That happened to me last year because the prof never ordered the book. Colleges and profs do some of the dumbest things sometimes.
There's a FAQ section for LJ here that you can check out. As for posting your fic at moonlight_fics, you have to join the community here. Then you can post there by going to "update journal" and selecting moonlight_fics from the "post to" dropdown list. It's also good to put your fic behind a cut when you post it. You just select the text and hit the "LiveJournal Cut" button on the toolbar. Hope that helped! I look forward to seeing your fic on here.
