Babel was something I decided to do on the spur of the moment. I hadn't planned on being part of it, had set the script aside thinking I didn't really have time. Some things changed and I went ahead and called them up, asking if I could still step in. They let me and I'm still thankful for that. Not because of the award nominations we're receiving and honestly it is to me an us. There is no "Brad Pitt's performance" in this film, it's everyone from the lighting guys to the writers to the extras and then all of us who were part of portraying the amazing characters. I was lucky to be one of those people and I'm exceedingly grateful to have been nominated for the part.
I also really need an Oscar so Clooney and Damon can shut up about that, if anyone can help me out there.
Very recently, something I did plan to do and worked on with the amazing Nicole Kidman, premiered. God Grew Tired of Us is a documentary Nicole narrated and I helped produce, but the true stars of it are the Lost Boys of the Sudan. Three of them in particular who overcame incredible odds to leave their homeland and make their way to America to build new lives.
I'm honored to have been a part of both of these films, both teaching me that in this world, understanding one another is the key to learning to live in harmony. Stepping into the shoes of someone so unlike you that you couldn't normally fathom what their life is like, is where, I feel, the answers to most of the problems we have in this world lie. The inability to do that leads us to hatred and war and every day acts of random violence against one another. It's easy to hurt someone you don't have any understanding of, simple to turn your back on the pain of people whose lives seem never to touch your life. So, how much harder would all of that be if we stopped and tried to understand and learn before fueling those fires?
I hope someday we'll know.
And other than all that welcome back
britney_spears. I missed you, baby.
