Character Name; Yoite
Series/Fandom; Nabari no Ou

Personality; As a member of a group of ninjas known as the Kairoushuu, Yoite, is, on the surface, what one would expect from an experienced killer: cold, mostly unemotional, and without hesitation when it comes to killing. He appears to show no fear of death during battle, instead remaining focused on what must be done as part of his missions. However, underneath the exterior, Yoite is truly a person with many issues and concerns about his life-- both past and present-- and fast-approaching death, the deaths that he's caused, and his dealings with other people. And surprisingly enough, he is, to certain people, rather open about these problems.
For the most part, Yoite is a bit of a stoic; he appears apathetic to much of what goes on around him, whether it involves danger or more social situations. He is capable of killing without hesitation and can even keep a level head when a threat to his own life is posed. Because of this, it may seem that he cares little about his own life, which is very close to being true. Because of Kira, the forbidden technique that Yoite uses, his lifespan has been greatly shortened (his own life 'fragments' are used to attack), and he is well aware of this fact. However, his wish is not to live, but to have his very existence erased (by making use of someone else's power to make it so he'd never been born in the first place); later, though, he changes, and despite the impossibility, truly wants to live. He still does face danger with little fear, though, and as dangerous his health as the use of Kira is, Yoite still continues to use it. Along with battle, though, other situations in which Yoite tends to put up an unemotional front are social ones. He's not entirely unfriendly, but just prefers to be alone, and often stays away from others. Oftentimes, Yoite doesn't even seem very concerned with other people, not even holding conversation with any, save for a rare few. However, for the few that he truly does care about, he will make more of an effort, and will, for only one person so far in canon, be rather protective, bordering on possessive, at times.
The fact that Yoite does show a caring side to a few people is an indication of him actually having a soft side. Of course, he hides it well, and only those that he really trusts know of this. With them, he is surprisingly open; this shows honesty as well, and it is very likely that if asked, he would tell people what they wanted to know (however, most do not ask, because of his tendency to shut others out). A lot of his issues stem from his possession of Kira, both because of what it does to him and what it's used for, while others are the result of a rather traumatizing childhood. For the most part, Yoite seems to be going through some sort of existential crisis; his wish, as mentioned before, is to change the past so that he'd never been born. However, the idea of existing is one that he seems to be somewhat obsessed with, and he appears to have a fear of being forgotten (and has a need to have his existence validated by others, as a result). On the other hand, he seems to not be willing to die (bordering on a fear of death), an odd contradiction, given his wish. He also, despite his apathy when it comes to killing, does have regrets about using his power to kill; however, he's spent so long a time killing (in order to, largely, have any sort of purpose), that he knows he can't leave that behind.
Through all the issues and stoicism, it can't be said that Yoite is a bad person, really. Though he doesn't talk much to or care about others, he is rather polite when he does talk (even if he avoids being around people, and usually only speaks when spoken to first), and it's rare that he actually is unkind. His ability to keep a cool head serves him well, both in his job and other situations, even though it's a bit of a front. Overall, he's not bad, just a bit difficult to get along with, but once that hurdle is cleared, dealings with Yoite become much easier for all involved.

Strengths/Abilities; Yoite possesses the skill "Kira," which is a technique that allows him to inject an opponent with his life force; this is used to kill or badly wound the victim. It can also be used to keep life fragments inside of someone, so that they can be killed at any time (however, if the user dies, anyone with the fragments from Kira inside of them will die as well). Along with this, Yoite is skilled with close combat, being very quick with his movements.
Weaknesses; Despite how useful it is, an ability like Kira is not without its side effects. Because Kira makes use of the wielder's own life, it's obvious that use of it is very risky. Yoite, to make matters worse, had started using it at a young age, which means the effects are worse than if he'd begun later. Not only does he have poor stamina in battle, but he also, because of his long-term use of Kira, has been coughing up blood (more often after use of his power). Along with that, Yoite is beginning to lose his senses, and has already lost his sense of taste; his vision and hearing are beginning to fade as well.

Background; Even from birth, it was obvious that Yoite would have a rather difficult life. Born into the Koudou family as Sora, his birth was the event that brought about his mother's death. Because of that, he was hated by his family, and grew up with his father and stepmother referring to him as a "shinigami" and blaming him for his mother's death, something he continues to carry with him. Another issue that made Yoite's childhood difficult and continued to affect him over the years was that of his gender. Though details on this are a bit unclear, it is brought up that Yoite is intersexed (meaning neither entirely male nor female; he does, however, identify as male), a very possible excuse for his shyness throughout his years. Really, childhood was not an easy phase for Yoite, who spent his free time two or three times a month, since he was about ten, at the local church (though he really only just sat there), alone. He isolated himself from others his age, save for his younger brother (either stepbrother or half-brother, details on this aren't clear, either), and didn't really bother with people, much like his later years.
Things changed rather quickly when Yoite was about thirteen, though; his father finally snapped and attacked him with what appeared to be a knife, leaving him badly wounded and with what would become a permanent scar on his neck. Yoite managed to escape, though, and was later found, close to death, by the leader of the Kairoushuu, Tojyurou Hattori. Hattori is most likely the man who taught Yoite the Kira ability, and Yoite remained with Hattori for about two years, before Hattori sent him to live with Kazuhiko Yukimi, another member of Kairoushuu. At that point, Yukimi was the one who gave his new housemate the name "Yoite," and who would become a large part of his support system as he grew older. Shortly after Yoite began living with Yukimi, he underwent a rather drastic growth spurt, most likely because of Kira, going from being considered rather short for his age to being five-foot-eleven in a matter of only three days. Those days marked the beginning of Yoite's dealings with the side effects of Kira; this power, however, was the only reason that he remained with Kairoushuu, and to Hattori, he was pretty much expendable.
And then, a power known as the Shinrabanshou surfaced in the world. As a near-limitless power that can do nearly anything the owner wants, the Shinrabanshou quickly became Kairoushuu's target. Yoite, as well, had his own interests to serve, and was able to manipulate the Shinrabanshou's vessel, Rokujo Miharu, into learning how to control the Shinrabanshou in order to grant Yoite's wish of changing the past so that he'd never been born. By attacking Miharu's friends and then telling him, untruthfully, that the Kira fragments remained inside of them (and that he could kill them at any given time), Yoite made it so that Miharu could not risk refusing. So Miharu began traveling with Yoite and Yukimi to find the scrolls-- the Kinjutsusho-- that would teach Miharu how to use the Shinrabanshou, and all the while, the two began to grow closer to each other.
Soon, things took another of those turns for the worse, when the group traveled to a school belonging to one of the ninja villages, Kouga, in order to gain one of the scrolls. Before their plan to steal it and escape could be carried out, they were attacked by students from the scholl, eventually resulting in Yoite getting stabbed. This turn of events brought about a rather large change within Yoite, who, instead of accepting what seemed to be an almost certain death, expressed not wanting to die, and begged Miharu to save him. As a result of the use of the Shinrabanshou (that was partly accidental and completely out of control), Yoite did survive the ordeal, even though there were more difficulties ahead. When it seemed that Kairoushuu's plans for Miharu and the Shinrabanshou had very little to do with the original plans (and they were planning on separating Yoite and Miharu), the two of them escaped from Kairoushuu and began a journey to Banten, where Miharu is from, and where the location of one of the Kinjutsusho is.
