Perception, Perspective, and Presumption…

It never ceases to amaze me how much perception can channel reality into an altogether opposite frame of existence. Take a base situation and imprint your feelings upon it without sharing any aspect of it with others. Anything will do - watering plants, dusting, lying prostrate on the couch and vegetating to your favorite television show - anything ( Read more... )

In a post about perception, causality, and reality, it seems that you may have overlooked someone. Let’s not forget about our favorite feline: Schroedinger’s Cat. Whether you prefer the Copenhagen Interpretation or the Multiverse Theory, the underlying principle remains the same: simply by being observed, the subject of observation is altered. Perception, causality and reality are intrinsically linked, each reliant upon the others to exist. Perception (read “observation”) seems to have the most influence because it has the power to directly affect the physical realm by forcing an atom out of its quantum state of multiple simultaneous eventualities and into a physical state of a singular reality. I suppose that the method used to perceive could be classified as pure or discordant, but…

Purity? Discord? While these are interesting units of measure for individual strands within the infinite tapestry of our reality, I prefer something a little less melodramatic. I propose that each thread is denoted by not good or bad, but a single hue in an infinite spectrum. Much like the quantum cat, each thread exists in a superstate of both purity and discord. It is not until an individual thread is observed in the context of its neighbors that a determination can be made as to whether it accents, blends, or clashes with the overall pattern in that section of tapestry. That interaction determines whether we perceive the thread to be pure or discordant. If every thread was our favorite color, the tapestry would be very boring indeed. The sad truth may be that the vast majority of threads in our reality are simply background hues for our vibrant colors to stand out from.

But I digress…
It stands to reason that everything we know, every truth we believe, has been perceived at some point. Whether the observation is done by ourselves or others, the alteration takes place. While most things that are perceived by only ourselves are probably altered imperceptibly, there remain some exceptions in which what we have chosen to believe has been changed so completely that it no longer reflects the ideals that drew us to the paradigm in the first place.

If anyone is unfamiliar with Schroedinger’s Cat, you can get the basic idea here: http://www.lassp.cornell.edu/ardlouis/dissipative/Schrcat.html

Valid points my dear compatriot, although a bit off topic. The above post was not about the properties of reality. It was more about the properties of human interaction. Purity of intent is a very real occurrence and can be diluted through interactions with others. Once you share a view and it is discussed, your original view is no longer in its initial state. The observations of others have been imprinted upon it whether you change your initial assumption or not.

I didn’t bring our favorite cat into it because the interactions discussed take place after the quantum state has been dismissed. It is the perception of whether the observed state of a given thread is viewed as positive or negative, and how other views imprinted upon that thread alter the initial perception that I was speaking to.

I think you’ll agree that although they might be a little melodramatic, the ends did justify the means.

So there ;p

Now I’m off to write a post about reality in response to your reply.

This rocks! I’m so glad you’re here.
