Out of Whack

A extraordinary event is unfolding in the Atlanta area.  We've experienced severe gas shortages since hurricane Ike.  For almost a week now gas stations everywhere are out of gas, and the very few that can provide gasoline - a very hit or miss proposition - have long lines.  Of course, the price is up, but not as much as it was in the days following Ike's landfall.  Imagine having the money to purchase gas, but the pumps are empty.  I have a couple of doctor's appointments tomorrow, and unless I can find a station with gas, one or both will have to be canceled.  I have no idea whatsoever how people who deliver newspapers every night are managing.  Will there be gas available in time to fill up for my deliveries on Thursday?  I know a few people who can't go to work because they're out of gas and now can't drive around looking for a station with fuel.  I'm not positive, but I don't think anyone is rationing fuel.

This is completely out of whack!  Fortunately, the bike gets great mileage, so we're not exactly stranded, but it's not practical for work or even taking Johnna back and forth to school.  We're told in 8 - 10  days everything will normalize again.  If not, we'll have to outfit Johnna with a helmet and leathers!  :)   Wouldn't she just love that.  (But it ain't gunna happen no matter how much she begs.)
