As I turned around from delivering Johnna to the class gate (inside the building) today a woman stopped me and asked if I was Johhna's grandmother. I affirmed this and the speaker identified herself as one of Johnna's teachers. Right there on the spot, we had a 30 minute impromptu conference. The more we spoke, the better I felt, no only about the care and education Johnna is currently receiving, but also about myself. The teacher was so warm, so wonderful and so uplifting. I've met but a few people like this in my life and it's always amazing when walking away finding myslef wanting to be a better person for the experience. There's little wonder why Johnna is absolutely thriving in this environment.
I was able to confirm today that not only are they adding the 4th & 5th grades, but up through 8th grade. The building project will begin this summer. It's funny how paniky I was feeling about Johnna attending a regular school after only two years here. No concerns now!
Because every aspect of her education is customized to her needs, they've began speech therapy for her. And because everything they teach is holistically approached, these classes are taught and then reinforced in the classroom all day long. Of all the services one could have expected, an individualized speech cirriculum was one I would have thought they would leave for parents to take care of. No more pulling her out of class and no more payments to a specialist. Incredible.
This school is the best kept secret of Atlanta. Bar none. I only wish we were able to afford sending all the grandkids here. Once we win the lottery, it's a given.
We are the proud owners of a new meter-to-house waterline. They were quick!
It's nothing but paper, after paper, after test from here on. My little brain is going to explode. Each time I bend over a little more history dibbles out. It's not a pretty sight. When the aforementioned teacher learned I was a history major she practically jumped on me begging to put something together for the kids. I cautiously said I'd consider it. At least something good could come out of the education instead of dripping it all over the floor. We'll see....
education,
