"I cannot self-terminate."

So, I mentioned the Screenplay thing. Well, as part of the plot line, I want a character to commit suicide. However, after pondering various movies in which I've seen prominent characters, even the protagonists, off themselves (sometimes by proxy, as in Terminator 2; sometimes figuratively, as in Fight Club), I got the impression that cinematic suicide just doesn't have the punch-you-in-the-face impact that it ought to. In fact, film makers either make it seem ordinary or like something admirable, as far as I can tell. Does anyone have any good leads on a decently written drama where a character's suicide is depicted as a devastatingly horrible event? If so, drop me a line and let me know so I can research this out. Thanks in advance.
