I was granted yet another opportunity to write up an article about a tumblr style icon when Ella Wood agreed to a little interview! Ella's keen eye for fashion has landed her as Teen Vogue's Best-Dressed Reader of the Day (see
here) and has been offered various opportunities in the fashion industry. Not to mention she has a growing audience on tumblr, on which she posts an assortment of photos ranging from haute couture to ballet slippers. Her refined, and sometimes even quirky, style presents a new perspective of fashion to our generation. She mixes neutral colors like cream and lavender with a pop of bright color every once in a while, incorporating the styles of fashion icons she's mentioned below in her every day wear. Enjoy!
Cynthia: Tell me a little bit about yourself! Also, how would you describe your tumblr?
Ella: My name's Ella, I'm sixteen and I'm from a little town in Devon, England. My Tumblr is just a collection of things which I find interesting or beautiful. Most of the time that ends up being a mixture of fashion, interiors and places I'd like to visit.
C: Describe your style; Is there anyone or anything in particular that influences the way you dress?
E: For me, the most important thing about shopping and clothes is to try to put together a classic wardrobe which will last a long time and from which lots of outfit combinations can be made. I like to buy understated, but well-made pieces which will all work well with each other. As for style icons, I don't like to copy exactly what anybody wears, but I am very much inspired by women who always look effortlessly impeccable. People like Phoebe Philo, Sofia Coppola and Audrey Hepburn would have to be my ultimate style icons, because they manage(d) to look graceful and elegant, without ever being 'overdone'.
C: I heard that you were invited to go to the NY fashion week! How do you feel about it?
E: I feel incredibly excited! It's an unbelievable opportunity for me to have been given. Honestly, it hasn't really even sunk in yet, and I'm leaving in less than a week!

C: I've also heard that you're quite tall (: Do you have any fashion advice for tall girls?
E: My best advice for tall girls (actually for all girls) is just to be confident with your shape and size. Don't try to hide it or change it, embrace it! I know it's been said a billion times before, but you are completely unique and there is no reason that you should try to look like everybody else. I used to feel so awkward because I was so much taller than my all of my friends, but I learned to like it and now I'm completely happy with my height.
C: What do you think are some must-haves for the upcoming seasons?
E: Midi skirts; I love them. I think a lot of people are reluctant to try anything below the knee as they think it will make them look frumpy, but I think they're brilliant!
C: Who is your favorite designer or place to shop? Why?
E: Honestly, nearly all my clothes come from the high street. I love charity shopping, and I do receive hand-me-downs and finds in second-hand shops, but I don't actually own anything that was incredibly expensive. If I had the money, I would wear a lot of Chanel, Celine, Chloe, Valentino, Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney.
(^some nice things you can find on
Ella's Blog ^_^)
C: Do you see yourself having a career in the fashion industry in the future?
E: Oh definitely! The only jobs I can possibly see myself in (besides fashion) are interior designing and film directing, but I just can't really imagine doing anything besides fashion. I must have been about seven when I decided that it was my dream to become a designer, I used to sit on the sofa watching runway shows on the TV, sketching what must have been shockingly bad outfits in a notepad. Of course, I've changed a lot since then- I no longer want to be a designer, but my love of fashion and beautiful things has never gone away.
