What a fun book meme! (Borrowed from
ama_mizu)
1) Total number of books in your house:
Not sure of quantity, but 3 tall boys (4 shelvers); 5 middle guys (3 shelves); 2 or 3 odd sized ones (4 shelves each or so); and the 5 or 6 boxes worth of books left in exhile.
2) The last book you bought was:
Spherical Harmonic by Catherine Asaro
I bought it on sale and then realized I don't have the book before it. Waiting to get a library card so I can read them in order.
3) What was the last book you read before reading this message?
Pebble in the Sky by Asimov. Random Asimov book guru bought. I'm currently reading all fiction I've not read previously in the house, starting with A. 6 down, a million to go.
4) Write down 5 books you often read or that mean a lot to you:
I, Claudius by Robert Graves.
For some reason this has become one of my comfortable favorites. I first read it during an internship in Ann Arbor and it stuck with me ever since. I think I bought an old, slightly moldy eddition from the used book sellers for $3.00. Best money I've spent in awhile.
The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell
I think this book really blew the covers off my expectations of good Sci Fi. I've reread it a number of times because it is exactly how I want my ficitional experiences to happen. Too bad the sequel isn't as solid.
The Warrior's Apprentice (Miles Series) by Lois McMaster Bujold
I put down the first book, but really I include the whole series. Great comfort food, um, I mean book.
Glittering Images (Episcopal Series) by Susan Howatch
I like the whole series, though I think the first book (above) is the best written/most concise plot. It was suggested to me by a dear friend while we were surviving seminary (I as a spouse, she as a student) and is a really fun commentary on trends in episcopal theology from 1950. Do not be fooled by the Romance Novel Cover. :D
The Phoenix Guards (Draconia Series) by Steven Brust
Guru got me hooked on these, and pretty much anything SB writes, though I think this is the funnest book of this particular series. I wasn't too much into the later books. Vlad is also highly prized here too, but I enjoy the histories a *wee* bit more.
And now I really am going to work on FRIDAY! I SWEAR!
