I finally registered for my first triathlon race ever --Extri. It's an annual event organized by Extribe.
Here's a write up taken from their site:
"The eXtribe started in 2003 as a group of triathlete friends who, finding too few local triathlon races to join, took up the challenge to organize quality races to compliment the Philippine racing calendar.
Fast forward to the present, and the group's passion for the sport and being active has transformed eXtribe Inc. into a sports lifestyle company, especializing in Sports Events Organization and Management.
Priding itself to be one of the best race organizers in the Philippines, eXtribe Inc. has been staging its signature triathlon races -- White Rock Long Distance Triathlon and eXtri: Off-Road Triathlon -- as well as organizing quality endurance races for different clients since 2004. Recently, eXtribe launched its own website that attempts to broaden its reach in the Philippines.
Transcending the actual races, the eXtribe "community" goes well beyond the athletes and their families. The tireless volunteers, the local communities supporting the events, the companies that sponsor or even produce their own race events, all comprise this community that share a common sub-culture that values quality, perseverance, excellence and community involvement through sport."
Astig ang eXtribe.
Since joining AMCI in 2005, i have gotten into different sports activities - -running, underwater hockey (which i plan to go back to soon),and now biking. So it was just a natural progression for me to take part in a traithlon. My best friend Janz has been doing it for quite some time now, in fact most of my AMCI pals and Hockey friends are also into it. Lagi talaga ako'ng late bloomer.
Seriously, i've always wanted to do it, but work always takes up most of my time so i never really got to fully train and immerse myself in the triathlete' lifestyle, training everyday But one day i realzie that i will never have time for it if I don't make time for it. So now, with just a week and a few days to prepare, i'm jumping into my first race with eyes close and fingers crossed. Hopefully my muscle memory is good enough, and that my training/cramming this week will at least help me finish this race.
I am very much excited about this event, mainly because it's my first. (Like a virgin, sooooooooh!)
but also because i'll finally be able to test myslef in terms of endurance. How far can i take it? How long?
The race distance is as follows: Swim - 1km/ MTB - 23km / Trail Run - 5km
Whatever it is, i know i will finish. Hiya ko na lang sa sarili ko. Pride does take you far, believe you me.
So here's to my first triathlon race. Hopefully it doesn't whip my virgin ass.
