Vacation!

Con Edison is repairing a gas line outside my window...rather loudly, I must say. But that is okay because...wait for it...I am on vacation for the next seven days! No work, no stressing about work, and no thinking about work until next Tuesday. A whole week of doing what I want to do when I want to do it and no one to tell me that I can't because I have a report going out. Can I tell you how excited I am about this?

I'm not traveling anywhere distant, but I do have some day trips planned. Tomorrow I'm going to go hiking at the Cranberry Lake Preserve, which while not overly challenging will still be enjoyable. I'd originally planned to go up into the Catskills for the day, but enough folks expressed concern about taking that sort of trip alone that I switched gears; this is closer, safer, and will likely be more relaxing. After the hike, I'm going to catch Mamma Mia! with a friend from work. I've been curious to see it, and she totally adored the movie and wants to experience it again.

Right now I'm planning a trip to the ocean on Thursday, probably Jones Beach down in LI, and am hoping that another friend from work will be able to join me. If she can't, I may just spend the afternoon at Oakland Beach, instead.

Labor Day Weekend will be spent in LI with Al, Mishu, and Al's sister. They're planning a weekend of winery tours, quaint town visits, and perhaps a ferry trip out to either Block Island or Fire Island. This one will be a bit rough on the budget, but it will be worth it. I went out to Montauk a few years ago and absolutely adored it. Spending a few days exploring more of eastern LI (with wine!!) will be glorious :-)

Wednesday is totally open and will probably be a writing day, as will tonight and the part of Friday that I'm not a) doing laundry or b) driving down to Al and Mishu's place. I haven't done any real writing for a long time, and I want to play with some of the ideas for my existing characters that have been percolating for the past few weeks. Now I just need to get the dragon up on my ceiling, and the hutch off my desk! Those will be tonight's project, once I get back from the grocery store...
