As I was riding the A train a few days ago, a group of hipsters got on and they were obviously on the way to a party. The girls were MAC’d out and American Appareled to the fullest and the boys couldn’t have been cuter. I was thinking, hey, I blog for bitchfork, I am cooler than them. They need to know who I am so they can come over here and worship me. Then, we got off at the same stop in Park Slope and were walking in the same general direction. I heard them discussing their myspace pages and how many friends they had. Hey, that’s more than me! And apparently a few of them hang out with the guys from MSTRKRFT. As luck would have it, we were headed to the same building. This dude who lives on the floor above me was having a party, and all these uber-hipsters went upstairs. They were at it all night, they really sounded like they were having a great time. I was trying to concentrate and write the review of this new Justin Timberlake CD and think of ways to compare it to that limited edition brown vinyl 10” I have that is a split between Soft Pink Truth and Neil hamburger. Ultimately, I had to give up because they were just making too much noise. When I was getting in from work the next day the dude was just waking up from the party and he was sitting on the steps of our building and I said ‘Hey man what was that record you guys were playing last night, it sounded pretty good’ and he didn’t know, but he went back upstairs and got it and it was the new Rapture record. -Chase VanMooringlisch
