Aaarghhhh, I hate January exams

Jan 12, 2010 21:42

Whose bright idea was it to have them in January, anyway? Having to worry about this crap during Christmas/New Year holiday is not fun. The studying is not going amazingly, I can't seem to pay attention to or absorb anything these days. I have the attention span of a child. And the cold snap makes trips to the library not so fun. My exams are on the 19th/20th, so I have the rest of tonight, tomorrow (going out tomorrow night), Thursday, working on Friday and Saturday, another night on Sunday...crap. The nights out during exam time probably aren't such a good idea, but I take my socialising where I can get it tbh.

I watched The Hours on TV last night. It was...interesting, at least. I wasn't paying all that much attention so the main things I got from it were "Suicidal lesbians through the ages!" and "Nicole Kidman has a fake nose!" and "Wtf, did Kidman's character just kiss her sister?" I got such a shock when Meryl Streep's friend through himself out the window at the end. Everyone wanted to kill themselves in the movie, it was kind of depressing. ;_;

The one thing that really stood out for me was the music! The soundtrack was absolutely gorgeous, so I went online looking for it when the movie was over. It's composed by Philip Glass, a minimalist classical composer who won an Academy Award for this score. The music's very repetitive, but not in a bad way. The same melody is reused throughout and interpreted in a variety of different ways to suit the scene, and it's really quite outstanding to listen to on its own as well as part of the film. It's kind of somber and uplifting at the same time, I don't know how to explain it. I'll definitely be looking for more of Philip Glass's stuff.
