It's.. Complicated.

Went painting today with my head screwed on straight and realized that my drawings of things are FAR better resources than the photos, because I've already worked out most of the issues with light and dark values.

Here's the original drawing, it's been waiting in my sketchbook for a few months while I messed around with underpainting methods.

Brown paper bag paper is the best thing EVER to draw on. The sketchbook is cheap, and found at Borders. If you want to draw things in full values quickly, a mid-tone paper is the way to go. (*is done plugging Borders now.*)

This is the painting I'm working on so far- The yellow bits are the underpainting for trees, and the red-orange spot in the middle will likely be a house (Of some collapsed sort.

The figure on the bottom left is going to be repainted before I make any more egregious mistakes. In the end all of the figures will be color, but I'm starting to use glazing which is the most lifelike coloring process you can get with oil. It just takes TIME. Lots and lots of patience involved (oh ha ha).

The point of this painting is far too TL;DR for this time. Maybe I'll boil it down to fifty words and THEN start forcing people I know to read it.

Looking at Grad schools. Pretty much everyone has told me to go to a different one than San Jose, maybe they just want me to move far far away from them.
