Zol entry 4

I kept my job. I'm not sure why they kept me on the project, maybe the president had a hand in it. But I still felt like a free spinning wheel.
But the next year and a half probably had something to do with it.
Within a week of the public announcement of the warp project, the president of the united states put forth a call to all nations of the world. He called for the world to step into the future, to cast aside past discretions, and unite. But not under the united states, but under a grand, new governing body, comprised of all nations. I'll admit, it sounded pretty hokey to me, but within weeks, countries started signing up. Maybe there were back room deals, threats, or just desperation. Mexico, Japan, Australia, they all jumped on from go. Next came England, Canada followed suit hours later, Germany, Spain, Russia. A period passed, some were worried of being invaded, others liked the appeal of total equality on the council and rights for all. Most of Africa united, sans Libya, Zimbabwe, and Madagascar, under the United Earth Government. All of South America and Central America joined up. France began it's protest, the Swiss refused for some reason. The former soviet bloc came over to our side, the Chinese soon after. India joined, Pakistan didn't. Most of Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, they all flat out refused all offers. Israel joined, then started a very brief war between the UEG and several countries of the Middle East, needless to say, it lasted two weeks. Iraq and Iran, retreated to lick their wounds. Saudi Arabia surrendered and was absorbed into the UEG.
A massive army was dispatched across the world, enforcing the new human rights in nations that lacked them, currencies were all dissolved, replaced by NBDs (No Border Dollars), I thought they were pretty silly in name, but it was a good reminder of a new world. New faces came to the project, everyone seemed to fit much better than I. It all just seemed to make me feel like an even tinier wheel, spinning faster and faster away from the machine.
