Eliot felt his stomach drop at the reaction. Well, hell. He hadn't meant to upset him like that. He was just surprised, that was all. He bit his own lip, desperately wished that Nate was here. He would know what to do. "Mark, hey."
He swallowed and leaned across the table a little. "I'm sorry. You don't have to apologize to me. You didn't do anything wrong. You just caught me by surprise, is all."
There was no way he could tell Mark that he wasn't sure if that was something he had learned in that tiny town. He did love his sister, dearly, but at the same time, that girl had some down right backward ideas. It honestly wouldn't surprise him if she spotted some trash about women belonging at home with their babies while the men worked. "I was wrong."
