Elizabeth probably wouldn't admit it out loud but she appreciates having a bathtub in the house. Island present or not. It's not as good as a boat but it's pretty handy and Weatherby likes it too - he kicks and squeals and splashs and cries when Elizabeth lifts him out. She's still a little nervous of dropping him when he's wet and slippy. At four ( Read more... )

Though the convenience of the compound did have it's usefulness, James had been relieved to move home, and to finally be able to introduce Weatherby to it. The house has it's own, new features that make life there rather a lot easier, running water, more space and even more recently, a bathtub, proving to be a valuable addition ( ... )

"It seems so," Elizabeth smiles at James just before Weatherby decides he's had enough of patting and tries to chew on a bit of fabric seaweed. Elizabeth is sure that can't be good. "No, Weatherby," she said. "It's not for eating." He ignores this and she carefully picks him up. He wails in protest and she rather rapidly puts him back down - on his back again and hopes that proximity to the toy will calm him - she certainly never can. It does but only after a moment of kicking and rather grumpy look on his small face.

She hesitates a moment and reaches out and rubs his stomach avoiding his flailing feet - not that a kick would hurt but that sometimes upsets him too, as if he didn't expect to make contact. "Show Father what you did before," she said hopefully. She rattles a plastic fish to encourage him. Weatherby sucks on his fingers for a moment as if he won't be persuaded but the lure of noise is too much and he rocks himself for a moment before rolling over and laughing.

Though the object is designed with a baby in mind, James can't help but feel a little unnerved at the sight of Weatherby trying his best to devour one of the bits of green shiny fabric, and clearly Elizabeth feels the same as she removes him from the toy for a moment to stop him, which of course he protests, James hoping Elizabeth does not take that one to heart, as his outrage was less personal and more concerned with being removed from his seaweed ( ... )

James is full of praise which has Weatherby gurgling happily as he accepts his due from his father. "Clever boy," she echoes letting go of the plastic fish as Weather laughs and smushes his face into the mat. Weatherby has found a bit of the mat with a shiny surface and his small hand almost sticks to it as he pats at it fascinated. But then Weatherby does managed to make himself sticky very easily - he's little enough to get away with drooling a lot and he likes to put everything he can in his mouth. "I'm sure we couldn't," Elizabeth said, moving a the seaweed fabric out of reach again. Weatherby finally pushes himself up again but then flobs back down and tries to chew on the blue fluff. Elizabeth moves him a little so he is left with the shiny surface his hand was sticking to. He can't get this in his mouth but he can drool on it and then rub his face in it. Lovely - it's just as well Weatherby likes being bathed.

There is no argument for being easily amused, especially if when you're not amused you are more partial to crying, or fussing. Yet it is curious how amusing it is, as a parent to watch your child, for the most part independently exploring something, though perhaps he is still not quite old enough to do so with purpose as he seems constantly surprised at finding textures differing beneath him. No doubt this gift would do to amuse him for some time yet. James winces slight as his son delights in slathering a sticky portion of the mat with his own drool and then in what seems a deliberate move nuzzle it about. James huffs an amused sort of noise, but it is not the most endearing thing Weatherby has done. It's also quite noticeable Weatherby is determined to reach for the seaweed despite Elizabeth's watchful response. "Weatherby, what about the dolphin, or the fish? Do you like those." He asks, trying to get his attention by moving each of these about on their separate fastenings, and his attention does shift, legs still kicking about ( ... )
