Interesting day in law:

Despite my best efforts, I can't find the name of the case, but this seemed too funny not to post. Apparently a circut judge recently heard a petition for man wishing to withdraw his plea of insanity, on which he had been pardoned for his crime and commited to pschiatric check-ins once a year for ten years. Getting this allowance was an uphill battle, a legal marathon. After winning a hearing and being granted the right to withdraw his plea of insanity, he was retried for his crime, for which he was sentenced to fourty years in prison. He was two years from completing his anual psychiatric commitment, non of which will count toward his jail time.

In other interesting news, today I visited my grandfather in his nursing home. Across the hall, I kid you not, was a leathery-looking war-wearied old woman who seemed around ninety. After asking her about the legal documents on her wall, she confessed to being Oregon's first female judge. Unfortunatly, I had time enough only to thank her for her work (which seemed a rather pathetic thing compared to her accomplishments) and move on, but she was a very cool woman to meet.
